Can a Kitchen Renovation Really Be Done in 6 Weeks? (Yes. Here’s the Fine Print.)
Short answer: yes.
Longer answer: yes, if. And that little “if” is where all the magic (and all the drama) lives.
We hear this question all the time, usually from someone with a very specific look in their eye. The look of a person who once spent four months washing dishes in a bathroom sink during a remodel that was supposed to take “a few weeks.” If that’s you, we’re sorry. Let’s make sure it never happens again.
The secret: the clock doesn’t start at demo
Here’s the thing most people don’t realize. When we say six weeks, we mean six weeks of construction. The part where your kitchen is torn up and you’re eating takeout on the couch.
What makes those six weeks possible is everything that happens before the first cabinet comes off the wall:Design is finished. Layout, finishes, lighting, all of it.
Selections are made. Cabinets, countertop material, tile, fixtures, appliances, hardware. Every last drawer pull.
Materials are ordered, and the long-lead items (cabinets especially) are in hand or have a confirmed delivery date.
Permits are in place.
Do the planning right, and the build can move fast. Skip it, and you’re living in a construction zone while waiting on a backordered faucet. Ask us how we know.
What a 6-week kitchen looks like, week by week
Every kitchen is different, but here’s what a typical refresh-to-mid-level remodel can look like when it’s well planned:
Week 1: Protect and demo. We cover floors, put up dust barriers and take the old kitchen out. This is also when we find out what’s been hiding behind your walls.
Week 2: Rough-ins. Plumbing, electrical and any ventilation changes get roughed in, then inspected. Not glamorous, but this is the stuff that keeps your new kitchen safe for the next 20 years.
Week 3: Walls and floors. Drywall patching, texture (it wouldn’t be a Vegas house without it), primer, and flooring if it’s going in under the cabinets.
Week 4: Cabinets go in. This is the week it starts looking like a kitchen again. Cabinets get set and leveled, and the countertop fabricator comes out to template.
Week 5: Countertops and backsplash. Counters are installed with sink and cooktop cutouts, and the backsplash gets started.
Week 6: The finish line. Backsplash is grouted, fixtures and appliances go in, hardware goes on, paint gets touched up, final inspection, punch list. Then you cook dinner. In your kitchen. Like a person.
What makes six weeks realistic
Six weeks is very doable when:
The layout mostly stays put. Sink, range and fridge in roughly the same spots.
No structural walls are coming down.
Every selection is made and ordered before demo.
Permits are already approved.
One team is running the whole show. This is a big one. With design-build, the same team that designs your kitchen builds it, so there’s no game of telephone between a designer, a contractor and five subcontractors.
What blows up the timeline
Let’s be honest about the usual suspects:
Changing your mind mid-project. Swapping tile after it’s ordered or moving an outlet after drywall is up adds days, sometimes weeks. We’ll help you make confident decisions up front so you’re not second-guessing later.
Backorders. That one specific faucet. That one specific tile. Supply hiccups happen, which is exactly why we like everything ordered before demo.
Surprises behind the walls. Old leaks, outdated wiring, a previous owner’s “creative” DIY. It’s not common in every home, but when it shows up, it has to be fixed right.
Inspection scheduling. We plan around it, but we don’t control the city’s calendar.
Bigger scope. Moving plumbing or gas lines across the room, removing a wall or adding square footage is a different project. Still totally doable! Just plan for more than six weeks, and we’ll give you a real schedule, not a hopeful one.
Surviving six weeks without a kitchen (Las Vegas edition)
Set up a pop-up kitchen. Microwave, coffee maker, air fryer and a mini fridge in the dining room or garage will carry you surprisingly far.
Fire up the grill. Lovely in November. Heroic in July.
Embrace paper plates. Zero guilt. This is a season.
Count backward from the holidays. Want a new kitchen before Thanksgiving dinner? Add planning time plus six weeks, then call us sooner than you think you need to.
Keep pets and kids clear of the zone. Construction sites are fascinating to small creatures of all kinds.
Ready to get your kitchen back by… this time next season?
Six weeks isn’t a gimmick. It’s what happens when the planning is done right and one experienced team owns the whole process. We’ll sit down with you, map out the design, lock in your selections and give you a timeline you can actually plan your life around.
